The Orpheum Theatre is presenting its Annual Art Auction this Sunday- August 21st. The Orpheum’s 17th Annual Art Auction celebrates and promotes local artists in Memphis’s diverse and growing art community. 75% of the proceeds go directly to the artists, while the remaining 25% is used to fund Orpheum education programs and the maintenance . . . Time to dust off your costumes, break out those sketchbooks, and bag up your comics- it’s con season again! There’s lots to see and do this year, and lots of it is local- or just a tank of gas away. First up is the Metropolis Super Con in Metropolis, IL March 5&6, 2011. . . . 
This Thursday it’s that time again for our monthly MSCA dinner meeting at Garibaldi Pizza on Walker Ave. near the U of M. Every 1st Thursday of the month we meet from 7-9pm to draw toons, talk shop, and eat pizza. Bring yo’self, a sketchbook, pencil, copies of your latest project, and a . . . Don’t forget that this Thursday is the MSCA Dinner Meeting at 7 pm. We’ll gather at Garibaldi’s Pizza on Walker Ave (across from Tiger Bookstore). The second gathering is on November 20th at 9 am for Sat-art-day for those who can’t make the Thursday meeting, and to give us an opportunity to get some artwork . . .  Adam B. The artist reception for the art show “Elementary: The Many Faces of Sherlock Holmes” was a big success this past Wednesday night. Several members of the MSCA were in attendance. And some like Ronnie and Jane Shenks came bearing gifts! The Sherlock Candy Bouquet was awesome! Nicki, her mom, and sister . . . Adam B.
