What better way to start the weekend of fireworks to celebrate America’s birthday than to meet your fellow ink slingers (or cursor movers) at the monthly MSCA Dinner Meeting, 7 pm, at Garibaldi’s Pizza on Walker Ave. The date is July 1, so come on down! Bring your art to show, come to discuss your projects or pimp your wares…should be fun!

Speakers at May’s Dinner MeetingPosted on April 13th, 2010 by Kevin in Appearances and Conventions, Exhibits and Lectures, Fun Stuff, Industry News, MSCA Meetings, Member NewsFirst up at 8 a.m., Kelly Brother will speak to us about 901creatives! I think the group is a great network for members of the Mid-South Cartoonists Association! Next is Julia Lovel who will speak to us about Chronocomics, a website that will pair comic artists with sponsors! You can also see some images from the Sivads of March and a 1971 live appearance Sivad made at www.muleythemule.com. The February 4th dinner meeting of the world’s greatest cartoonists was fun and we left full of pizza! Adam Shaw spoke about the graphic novel he painted for HARPE, written by Chad Kinkle. The novel is available at Comics and Collectibles, The Comics Cellar, Davis-Kidd, and Amazon. There was a great review online.
Martheus Wade announced that “Defiance,” the movie based on Jetta: Tales of the Toshigawa, has been cast. (Happy 40th Birthday, Antone!)
Matt Ryan showed off his fabulous nails as he mentioned his title as Sequential Art and plans to bring more folk from Memphis College of Art.
Andrew Chandler continued our history of napkin doodles!
The weather, per usual for Memphis I suppose, is changing too rapidly and may produce unsafe travelling so the dinner meeting is unfortunately cancelled for January. But, here’s looking forward to a big’un in February! Don’t forget that the next monthly dinner meeting will be on January 7 at Garibaldi’s Pizza at 7 pm.
