The February 4th dinner meeting of the world’s greatest cartoonists was fun and we left full of pizza!

Adam Shaw spoke about the graphic novel he painted for HARPE, written by Chad Kinkle.  The novel is available at Comics and Collectibles, The Comics Cellar, Davis-Kidd, and Amazon.

There was a great review online.

Martheus Wade announced that “Defiance,” the movie based on Jetta: Tales of the Toshigawa, has been cast.  (Happy 40th Birthday, Antone!)

Matt Ryan showed off his fabulous nails as he mentioned his title as Sequential Art and plans to bring more folk from Memphis College of Art.

Andrew Chandler continued our history of napkin doodles!

This marks the 15th year since Calvin and Hobbes said goodbye to the comics pages. Creator Bill Watterson, who grew up in Chagrin Falls and still makes Greater Cleveland his home, recently answered some questions via e-mail from Plain Dealer reporter John Campanelli. It’s believed to be the first interview with the reclusive artist since 1989.  You can read the interview by clicking on Bill’s portrait below.

For many newspaper readers, flipping back to what used to be called the funny pages is bittersweet. It’s dependable amusement, yes, with Funky and Garfield and Beetle, but it’s also a daily reminder that someone’s missing.  Read the whole article at The Plain Dealer.

Hey, gang,

Time to go pirate a movie and set your VCR’s!  I’m kiddin’ about the first part.  Also, I’ve read HARPE and it is amazing.  Not for the children, but based on historic events…go get you one!

A painting I worked on is in the new Tennessee Williams movie “Loss of
a Teardrop Diamond”. The character of “Jimmy”, played by Chris Evans,
is looking up at the portrait in one of the first scenes. I’m
actually in the credits. The movie was directed by Memphian Jodie
Markell. It’s playing at the Malco Ridgeway.

Also on the 26th of January there is another signing for Harpe at
Davis Kidd at 6pm. Chad and I will be on Live at 9 that morning on
Channel 3.

Thank you.

-Adam

Also, Lin and I are looking for a copy of the screenplay to “London After Midnight,” so if you can direct us to it, please write to webmaster@midsouthcartoonists.com with details.
